Contractor License Bond
No state bond required
Massachusetts does not require a statewide surety bond for general or home improvement contractors. The Home Improvement Contractor Guaranty Fund, funded by a one-time contribution paid at initial HIC registration, is the consumer-protection analog and pays eligible homeowners up to $10,000 per claim for unpaid judgments.

Motor Vehicle Dealer Bond (Class 2 Used Car Dealer)
$25,000
$25,000 surety bond required for Class 2 (used car) dealers under M.G.L. c.140 § 58. A separate bond is required for each business name and each city/town where the dealer has a place of business. Class 1 (new) and Class 3 (junk) dealers are not required by statute to file a state-mandated surety bond, though individual municipalities may impose additional requirements. In lieu of a bond, a CD or irrevocable letter of credit of equal face value may be deposited.
